what is ag law?

Ag law is exactly like farming, you have to know a lot about a lot of different areas of the law. From Bankruptcy, Fence Law, Estates, Real Estate, 1031 Exchanges,  and property line disputes,  representing the modern farm producer requires knowledge in many areas of the law, combined with understanding of how the practice of law interacts with the practice of producing food, fiber and fuel for the world. You can call it farm law, agricultural law, or Food and the Law but providing service to this industry is a task I take seriously. Knowing that when a client has a problem with Round Up, it is likely a glyphosate issue, not a horse issue, is central to our practice of law.

All other forms of industry owe Agriculture a nod of thanks. Without access to food, we are unable to place other resources at risk to build wealth or invent new, helpful items and processes.

We regularly deal with drainage and tile issues, border disputes, fencing disputes, estates, wealth transfer, bringing the next generation of the family into the operation, purchases, sales and tax issues.

Other concerns farmers face include compliance with EPA and state environmental laws, Department of Transportation rules regarding weight and operation limits, collections for custom work performed for machinery or livestock services. Understanding the industry that the farm client operates in is key to ensuring the solutions we provide are the correct ones for the farm client.
